My grandson does not want to reincarnate as a male native bee.
This male swarm of stingless native bees (pictured) captivated his interest until he found out the boy bees have two options. The first is the don’t find a queen to mate with and die, the second is they do find a queen to mate with and their genitals detach from them and they die.
The queen then keeps their genitals in a special sack that preserves their viability. At least the male bees don’t have to do any work collecting nectar.
Don’t forget our free pollination workshop will cover this and more on sunday 21st April
