Sunday’s seed saving workshop with Jeff Alcott was a wonderful success. People tend to think seed saving is difficult and technical, and it’s true that some seeds are more difficult than others to save and propagate. But Jeff pitched his talk from beginners to experienced gardeners and introduced everyone to a whole lot of easy techniques for saving seeds and breeding from your own most successful plants.  He brought along a multitude of seeds samples and led a garden walk to show how to select seeds at exactly the right stage of maturity to harvest.

Added to that, there were lots of handy tips, like drying seeds on baking paper to avoid sticking, and using cooking sieves and colanders for washing.  And, on top of all that, it was a lovely chance to meet and make new friends.
